With iconic and lesser-known gems, we’ve fondue the perfect Zurich itinerary 🧀

Before, visiting Zurich — let alone the rest of Switzerland — danced in my mind like a reclusive ballerina.
I’d marvel at friends’ stories of seeing the Alps and hoped to do the same, but felt that deep down, it was a far-off dream.

But when I got there, reality was much better than what I had dreamt of: the city was a beautiful blend of charming houses with triangular roofs and breathtaking natural scenery. The lake was a deep, sapphire blue, and it became clear why locals flocked to its waters for a swim during the warmer months.
And to help make things more affordable and convenient for us, we bought the 72-hour Zürich Card (more on that later), for the first three days of our trip! It gave us unlimited use of public transportation, free entrance into museums, and a city tour for half the price.
If you’re a first-timer to the city, eager to see iconic attractions and local gems, read on for our 5D4N Zurich itinerary!

Day 1: Arriving in Zurich
Visiting the FIFA Museum

Our first stop for this trip was the one and only FIFA Museum. To enjoy free entry, we showed our Zürich Card’s QR code at the counter.
This was one of the best things I visited here — and I’m saying this as someone who doesn’t like football.
Seemingly an unassuming brown building from the outside, the museum was colourful and grand on the inside, offering a comprehensive overview of football and FIFA history.
But what really blew us away were the interactive exhibits.

ANDDDDD SHE SCORES!!! ONE POINT FOR TEAM TTI! WHAT A GOAL!!
There were all sorts of activities, from learning a football champion’s victory dance to commentating your very own football match. Our favourite area was The Pinball, which has five stations to try different football skills like dribbling, goal scoring, and corner-kicking. Talk about a finale!
Entrance fee: From CHF25/pax with online reservation — Free entry with the Zürich Card
Opening hours: 10AM – 6PM (last entry at 5:30PM), closed on Sun
Address: Seestrasse 27, Zürich, Switzerland 8002
How to get there: 2min walk from Hotel Locke am Platz (Google Maps)
Lunch at Samigo Amusement

After burning all those calories from being a professional football wannabe, it’s time to recharge at Samigo Amusement!
The restaurant operates by Lake Zurich, offering a beautiful view of the blue waters and the houses that sit on the other side.
We ordered Chicken and Waffles (CHF26), Truffle Pizza (CHF38), and Tuna Tostada (CHF25). I loved how strong the truffle was on the pizza, while the chicken and waffles had a great balance of sweet, salty, and spicy from the hot honey.
Opening hours: 11AM – 11:30PM (Mon, Wed – Sat), 11AM – 10:30PM (Tue), 10AM – 10PM (Sun)
Address: Mythenquai 59, 8002, Zurich
How to get there: From FIFA Museum, take bus 161/165 from Rentenanstalt bus stop to Schweizer Ruck bus stop, then walk 3mins (Google Maps)
Exploring Zürich-West District

Once an industrial park, Zürich-West district is now a hip and popular neighbourhood amongst locals. There’s the very vibey Frau Gerolds Garten, with plenty of F&B establishments, colourful decorations, and flowers.
If you’re looking to shop for local brands, drop by Freitag Tower (sustainable bags) and Viadukt Arches (local boutiques). Behind the latter is Josefwiese, a very popular park where locals go for gatherings and barbeques.
Opening hours: Varies per store
Address: 8005 Zürich
How to get there: From Samigo Amusement, take Tram 8 from Museum Rietberg Station to Bahnhof Hardbrücke Station. Then, walk 8mins (Google Maps)

Having a Splash at Urban Surf

In the Zürich-West District, our favourite place was definitely Urban Surf, an outdoor artificial surfing centre that introduced me to my newfound hobby.
I’d be lying if I said this was no biggie — I had zero experience in surfing, and the waves in the pool looked super strong and intimidating. But with only 30 minutes per session (CHF65), it was go big or go home!

Many, many falls later — and guidance from the lovely staff — I’m proud to say we all found our zen and managed to balance on our board in the end… even if it was only for 3 seconds!
Cost: CHF65/pax for a 30-minute session
Opening hours: 11:30AM – 11PM, closes 9PM on Sun
Address: Geroldstrasse 11c, 8005, Zurich
How to get there: From Bahnhof Hardbrücke Station, walk 11mins (Google Maps)
Dinner at Brasserie Spirgarten

Dinner was at a local F&B called Brasserie Spirgarten, where we were introduced to a local dish called Älplermagronen (Alpine Macaroni) for CHF22.50.
Imagine your good ol’ hearty mac and cheese, jazzed up with apple sauce. The combo might seem weird at first, but the balance of sweet and savoury was SUPERB, especially with the cheesiness of the dish!
We also tried their Battered Fish (their version of fish-and-chips) for CHF19.50, which was SOOOO CRISPY 🤌
*Pro-tip: Show your Zürich Card for a free dessert or apéritiff (an alcoholic beverage usually served before a meal). We opted for dessert, and got a refreshing Rhubarb Mousse Tartlet.
Opening hours: 7AM – 11PM (Mon – Sat), 8AM – 9PM (Sun)
Address: Lindenplatz 5, 8048 Zurich
How to get there: From Zürich-West, take Tram S5 from Hardbrucke station to Altstetten Station. Walk 11mins (Google Maps)
Check-in at Hotel Locke am Platz

For our entire trip, we stayed at Hotel Locke am Platz. Our room had a comfy bed, a huge dining booth like you’d see in restaurants, a spacious bathroom, and not to mention, a balcony!

One thing that took us by surprise was the lack of air-conditioning, as the hotel uses a central cooling system. During our stay, we simply opened the door to the balcony, which was enough to keep us cool throughout the night. But if it’s still warm, you can request the front desk to bring you a standing fan or portable AC.
The hotel’s situated right beside the FIFA Museum, while the Zurich Enge Railway Station and tram station are just a minute’s walk away.
Cost: From S$285/night for a Queen Bedroom with Balcony (up to 2 pax)
Address: Tessinerplatz 9, 8002, Zurich
How to get there: From Zurich Airport, take Tram S2 from Flughafen Zurich station to Zurich Enge station, then walk 3mins (Google Maps)
Day 2: Exploring Zurich’s Hidden Gems
E-Biking around Zurich

On Day 2, we decided to try something new and explored the city via an e-biking tour under Zürich Tourism!
For those who don’t know, e-bikes are like normal bicycles, but with a motor. The higher you put the gear setting, the easier it is to cycle, especially on inclines.
The tour started at Europaalle and brought us around the city, lasting about 2.5 hours in total.
Our guide, Luciola, was super friendly and took time to explain each attraction we passed by. She was never too fast and waited whenever we fell behind. Some sights we got to see included Lake Zurich, and this part of the Limmat River where locals swim! 👇

I loved how the route took us through quiet neighbourhoods, attractions, and parks where locals hang out. There’s something intimate and humbling about catching these slice-of-life moments when on a trip!
E-Bike City Tour
Cost: CHF39/pax (~S$61) — 50% off with the Zürich Card
Tour timings: Varies
Meeting point: Velostation Europaplatz, Europaallee 7, Zurich (in front of Starbucks Coffee)
How to get there: From Locke am Platz, take Tram 7 from Zürich, Bahnhof Enge station to Bahnhofstrasse/HB station. Then walk 10mins (Google Maps)

Enjoying a Picnic Lunch from Hammam Basar

We then headed off for a well-deserved picnic lunch at Hammam Basar. It’s a day spa and salon that also offers picnic services!
They gave us a picnic basket with Mediterranean spread, hummus — which went really well with the bread and salad — utensils, glasses, and a blanket.
We decided to dine at the nearby Patumbah Park on the lawn of the Villa Patumbah. The cool weather, good food, and exciting conversations made our lunch super enjoyable.
*Note: Return your picnic baskets to the restaurant once you’re done, and you’re good to go. To place an order, email them here.
Hammam Basar Picnic (only available from Spring to Autumn)
Cost: CHF60 (good for 2 pax)
Opening hours: Varies
Address: Mühlebachstrasse 157-159, 8008 Zurich
How to get there: From Europaallee & Gustav-Gull-Platz, take bus 31 from Kanonengasse station to Hegibachplatz station. Then, walk 10mins (Google Maps)
Admiring Masterpieces at Kunsthaus Zürich

Left painting: Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Irène Cahen d’Anvers (Little Irene); Right painting: Vincent van Gogh, The Cypress and Flowering Tree
Next, we went to visit the largest art museum in Switzerland, Kunsthaus Zürich. As a huge fan of oil paints, the gallery on Impressionism was easily my favourite. I found myself on the brink of tears while looking at a couple of pieces!

Refik Anadol, Glacier Dreams, 2023.
Their temporary installations were just as impressive! There’s one called Glacier Dreams (until mid-2026), where you go into a room and all four walls screen a sequence of pictures, glaciers melting, or lava-like blobs oozing. It’s kinda trippy, but also mesmerising.
*Pro-tip: Show your Zürich Card at the counter, and enter the museum for free!
Entrance fee: From CHF24/pax (~S$38) — Free with the Zürich Card
Opening hours: 10AM – 6PM (Tue, Wed, Fri – Sun), 10AM – 8PM (Thu), closed on Mon

How to get there: From Europaalle, Take Tram 3 from Zurich Bahnhofplatz Station to Kunsthaus Station (Google Maps)
Dancing the Night Away at Tanz am Sunntig, Barfussbar

Alexa, play Dancing in the Moonlight.
Our last stop for the day was Tanz am Sunntig, Barfussbar. A quick translation shows that it means ‘Dance on Sunday, Barefoot Bar’. It’s exactly what it sounds like: it’s a bar where people can dance without their shoes!
The dance floor is admittedly quite small since a swimming pool — only open during the day — takes up most of the venue’s space, but it wasn’t too cramped.
The energy was absolutely electric when we went, with plenty of young adults (and, surprisingly, oldies) rocking the dance floor. The full moon hung like a disco ball over the open-air party.
I didn’t recognise any songs played, but it was hard not to be swayed by the people around me. There were no negative vibes here at all — just the spirit of dancing and living in the moment.
Entrance fee: CHF16/pax (~S$25)
Opening hours: 8PM – 12AM (Wed, Thu & Sun only)
Address: Stadthausquai 12, 8001 Zurich
How to get there: Take Tram 9 from Kunsthaus Station to Burkliplatz Station, then walk 3mins (Google Maps)
Day 3: Soaking in Nature’s Sights
Discovering Wildlife at Langenberg Wildlife Park

I always severely underestimate how big nature places are in other countries, and the Langenberg Wildlife Park really hit it out of the park (wink) here.
There’s Langenberg West and Langenberg East, home to plenty of animals. Transportation to the park is included in the Zürich Card, which is super convenient!
The woods felt like a primordial forest. The air was crisp and smelled like leaves. Untouched by the city, trees towered around us like giants, and sunlight bathed them in a warm, golden-green glow.
This magical experience was made ten times better by the animals we got to spot!

They live in expansive near-natural enclosures, and enjoy huge parts of the forest/fields to themselves. Besides wolves, we got to see mice, moose, deer, bison, foxes, horses — just to name a few.
If you come at the right time, you might be able to spot a bear or lynx cat at the Predator Trail, too!
Even if you don’t get to see a lot of animals, the walk is still enchanting. We hiked for over an hour, but the animals and vast natural landscapes were so beautiful, they motivated us to keep moving forward!
Langenberg Wildlife Park
Entrance fee: Free
Opening hours: 24hrs (Langenberg East), 9AM – 7PM (Langenberg West)
Address: Wildparkstrasse, 8135 Langnau am Albis, Switzerland
How to get there: From the hotel, take Tram S2 from Zurich Enge to Thalwil. Walk to Thalwil Bahnhof (2mins) and take bus 240 to Langnau am Albis, Unteralbis Station. Then walk 11mins (Google Maps)

Lunch at Restaurant Felsenegg

Situated on top of a mountain, Restaurant Felsenegg offered a jaw-dropping panoramic view of Zurich and the Lake, paired with great food.
You can choose to hike up, but we decided to go by cable car, which is free under the Zürich Card! Check the timetable on the official website.

We tried some Swiss dishes, including the Tessiner Rosti (CHF28.50) and Raclette Plate (CHF7.50). A rosti is like a huge baked hashbrown, while raclette is basically melted cheese, with toppings like potatoes and vegetables.
The latter was my favourite as the cheese wasn’t too surfeiting or funky, and went well with the vegetables, especially the pickle!
For thin-crust pizza lovers, try their Tarte Flambee with sour cream, bacon, and onions (CHF26).
Opening hours: Varies
Address: Felsenegg 1, 8143 Stallikon, Switzerland
How to get there: From Langenberg Wildlife Park, take bus 153 from Adliswil, Buchel station to Adliswil, Bahnhof A station. Then walk 10mins to Adliswil cable car station, and take the cable car up. Walk 4mins to the restaurant (Google Maps)
E-Boating and Swimming in Lake Zurich

Visiting Lake Zurich is quintessential if you’re in the city, and I can’t think of a better way to appreciate it than cruising on the blue waters.
To do so, we rented an e-boat from Bootsvermietung Enge. They offer ten types of boats, including one with a sauna!
Most boats don’t need a license to operate. It sounds scary, but Su likened it to driving a toy car — you just need to control speed and direction. The staff will brief you on how the e-boat works before you begin your ride.

If you’re up for it, take a dip in the lake! Locals love swimming here during the summertime as a way to cool down from the heat. You know what they say: when in Rome, swim as the Romans do 😉
Cost: From CHF24/hr (~S$38)
Opening hours: Varies
Address: Mythenquai 25, 8002 Zürich
How to get there: Take the cable car down and walk 8mins to Adliswil, Bahnhof A station. Then, ride Bus 184 to Wollishoferplatz station. Afterwards, take Tram 7 to Museum Rietberg, then walk 7mins (Google Maps)
Dinner at Fischers Fritz

We enjoyed a hearty dinner at Fischer’s Fritz, which specialises in making crispy fish and chips (CHF29.90).
Their fried sushi (CHF32) was really interesting too! Despite being fried, it’s not too oily, and the raw fish inside tasted really fresh.
They have an al-fresco area with a view of Lake Zurich, but their indoor seating is super cosy!
Opening hours: 11:30AM – 12AM
Address: Seestrasse 559, 8038 Zürich
How to get there: Take bus 165 from Schweizer Ruck station to Stadtgrenze station. Walk 1min (Google Maps)
Day 4: Travelling Beyond Zurich

For an adventure outside of the city, we took a train headed to Atzmännig and the nearby town of Rapperswil-Jona.
Transportation to both places is not included in the Zürich Card, so here’s how you can get there:
1) To go to Atzmännig, buy a ticket here (from CHF12.10) We set our departure station as Zurich HB, and arrival station as Atzmännig, Atzmännigstrasse
2) To go to Rapperswil-Jona, get the ZVV 9 O’Clock Day Pass. The pass covers unlimited transportation to Rapperswil-Jona as well as getting around in the region.
Fun fact: It’s called the 9 O’Clock Day Pass since it’s valid after 9AM on weekdays! You can use it before 9AM on weekends.
Enjoying the Great Outdoors at Atzmännig

Just 90 minutes away from Zurich, Atzmännig is a great place to visit during summer or winter (for outdoor sports). FYI, we went in springtime, and summer activities were already open.
The first activity we did was the toboggan run (CHF10/pax), which was over 700m long. I found the ride most thrilling when I went fast! For your safety, do brake when going round the corner and towards the end of the ride.

The nearby Rope Adventure Park (CHF35/pax) is a must-try for climbers and those who love walking on ropes or being suspended in the air (me!!). There’s a total of eight trails with varying difficulty, and no previous experience is required.
Beginners are recommended to do Routes 1 and 2. We took on Route 1, which included two zip-line stations and a few obstacles that had us walking on a thin wire. It really tested our balancing skills, but Tracey and I were able to complete it in only 40 minutes!
Opening hours: Varies
Address: Sportbahnen Atzmännig AG, Postfach, 8638 Goldingen
How to get there: From the hotel, take Tram 5 from Zurich, Bahnhof Enge Station to Bellevue Station. Walk 7mins to Stadelhofen Station. Then, take Tram S5 from Stadelhofen Station to Ruti ZH Station. Walk to Ruti ZH, Bahnhof Station, and take Bus 885 to Goldingen Elgligen. Change to Bus 630 to Atzmännig, Schutt Station (Google Maps)
Lunch at Atzmännig Lodge

I was worried about having no food options on the mountain, but the Atzmännig Lodge self-service restaurant offered a hearty and comforting meal in a cosy setting. They operate similarly to IKEA — just grab the items you want before paying for your food at the cashier.
We got a plate of Alpine Macaroni for CHF21 (it’s an obsession now) with veal sausage (CHF11), which was meaty and went really well with the onion sauce. It didn’t taste gamey either!
Opening hours: 8AM – 6PM
Address: Sportbahnen Atzmännig AG, Postfach, 8638 Goldingen
How to get there: Walk 7mins from Rope Adventure Park (Google Maps)
Experiencing the Idyllic Life at Farm Bachlihof Jona

After an adventurous morning at Atzmännig, we headed to Bachlihof Jona, a lively and idyllic farm. With mountains in the backdrop, apple and orange orchards, an outdoor playground, and Lake Zurich nearby, there’s something for everyone.
The farm holds events regularly, their most famous one being the Pumpkin Exhibition during fall. From summer to autumn (mid-July to September), you can pick blueberries for just CHF5/pax.
There’s also a market here where you can try local and seasonal produce, all made in-house. We highly recommend their oat milk and roasted pumpkin seeds!
Opening hours: 9AM – 6PM (May – Oct), 9AM – 5PM (Nov – Apr)
Address: Blaubrunnenstrasse 70, 8645 Jona SG, Switzerland
How to get there: From Atzmännig, take bus 630 from Atzmännig, Schutt station to Eschenbach SG, Sternen station. Then, take bus 622 to Jona, Feldli station. Walk 21mins (Google Maps)
Strolling through Old Town in Rapperswil-Jona

Our final stop for this day trip was the Old Town in Rapperswil-Jona. Also known as “The Town of Roses”, the town felt like it was taken straight out of a medieval fairy tale. It has kept its rustic look and charm over the years, since its founding in the Middle Ages.

For a panoramic view of the Old Town, go up to Rapperswil Castle. There’s a deer park on one side as well, a tribute to how the town was founded.
Entrance fee: Free
Opening hours: 24hrs
Address: Lindenhügel, 8640 Rapperswil
How to get there: Walk 8mins to Jona, Gruenfeld station. Take bus 992 to Rapperswil SG, Glarnischstr. Walk 3mins (Google Maps)
Dinner at Restaurant CouCou

Newly opened in 2025, Restaurant Cou Cou is inspired by the Mediterranean concept of sharing food, and offers different cuisines such as Italian, French, Spanish, and North African.
The restaurant’s interior is super chic and elegant, with chandeliers and a high ceiling.
We enjoyed their Beef Tartare (CHF33), which was really creamy when eaten with bits of soft-boiled egg. Pair it with the crunchy crackers and it’s *chefs kiss*.

Their Octopus on Grill (CHF42) was good, too! It was my first time eating octopus — I was pleasantly surprised by how tender it was and how well it paired with the purée.
Opening hours: 11AM – 11PM, closes at 10PM on Sat
Address: Quaistrasse 1, 8640 Rapperswil
How to get there: 4min walk from Rapperswil Castle (Google Maps)
Cruising Back to Zurich by Boat

For our trip back to Zurich, we decided to switch things up and take a boat. Cruising into the sunset with the Alps behind us felt super luxurious!
The entire journey from Rapperswil to Zurich by boat is 2 hours long, but you can alight at any stop and take a train back for a quicker journey.
*Pro-tip: Arrive at the ferry terminal at least 5 minutes before departure. We loved our dinner so much we nearly missed the boat back to Zurich😭
Cost: From CHF8.90/pax (~S$14/pax)
Departure time: Varies
Ferry station: 8640 Rapperswil-Jona, Switzerland (Ferry Terminal)
How to get there: 5min walk from Restaurant CouCou (Google Maps)
Day 5: Seeing Europe’s Most Powerful Waterfall
Admiring Rhine Falls Up Close

A close-up view of Rhine Falls from the Middle Rock.
To conclude our trip, we went out to the iconic Rhine Falls. It’s hard to imagine that such a “short” waterfall is Europe’s most powerful, but the moment I saw its gushing torrents, all my doubts disappeared.

You can choose to view it from afar, or opt for a boat ride to the Middle Rock (CHF22.50/pax). The wind wasn’t too strong and we could feel a light sprinkle of the falls as we rode past it. The view of Rhine Falls up close is breathtaking!
There are also other boat rides available, including a 15-minute Rhine Falls boat ride.
Cost: From CHF6/pax
Opening hours: Varies
Address: Rheinfallquai 30, 8212 Neuhausen am Rheinfall
How to get there: Take tram 6 from Zurich, Bahnhof Enge station to Bahnhofstrasse/HB station. Walk to Zurich HB station and take the train IC to Schaffhausen station. Take Bus 1 to Neuhausen, Zentrum station. Walk 6mins (Google Maps)
Dining at Schloss Laufen

Our final meal in Zurich was in Schloss Laufen, a Swiss restaurant above the Rhine Falls. We had a table on the terrace, which was lovely as we could look over the walls and see the running waters below.
We really enjoyed the fried asparagus (CHF26). Lightly battered and perfectly crisp, they still retained their natural sweetness and tender bite (European vegetables hit different). The veal ragout with rosti was delicious as well (CHF48); the sauce was creamy and salty enough to balance the potatoes.
With a heart and belly full, we went back to Zurich City and headed straight to the airport.
Opening hours: 11:30AM – 11:30PM
Address: Areal Schloss Laufen, 8447 Dachsen, Switzerland
How to get there: 14min walk from Rhine Falls or take Boat 1 from Rhyfall Mandli to the observation deck. Climb up the stairs and take the elevator to the castle (Google Maps)
Planning Your Zurich Itinerary

Saying goodbye to Zurich at the end of our trip was really tough! The pace of life here felt slow and sweet like honey, a nice change from the rat race that Singapore tends to get caught up in.
The best part of the trip were the activities that made us feel like a local — picnicking under a tree, visiting mountains and parks, and swimming in Lake Zurich.
Getting around Zurich

Zurich’s public transport network is interconnected throughout the city, making it easy to get from place to place. Their buses, trams, cable cars, and trains are also often on time.
For navigation, we used Google Maps. Alternatively, download the SBB Mobile app, which provides more comprehensive information and features specific to Swiss public transport, like cable car schedules and ticketing options.
For a more leisurely way to explore the city, consider walking or even riding a bike! If you’re tight on time, an Uber works well, although it can be pricey.
Enjoy Perks with the Zürich Card

For this trip, we used the Zürich Card, which offers unlimited access to all forms of public transportation in the city and its surrounds.
There’s the option of buying the Zürich Card for 24 hours (CHF29), or 72 hours (CHF56). For this Zurich itinerary, we used the 72-hour card (Day 1 to 3) — activated upon arrival — for the most value.
Besides being a handy transportation card, we also enjoyed the offers it gave us when we visited attractions and restaurants in the city:
Perk | Where we used it | Value | Savings |
Unlimited use of public transportation | Any bus, tram, cable car, and train station in valid zones | CHF67.20 | CHF67.20 |

Total | CHF287.50 | CHF159.25 |
Taking our Savings – Value of the Zürich Card (72h), we saved a total of CHF103.25. That’s about S$162 saved!
Take note, this only includes the perks we used! To fully maximise your Zürich Card, do look through the full list of participating attractions and stores.
*Note: For Days 4 and 5, we recommend buying single tickets for public transportation where necessary.
How to Purchase the Zürich Card

To purchase the Zürich Card:
1) Download the Zurich City Guide app (iOS / Android)
2) Click on Zürich Card
3) Click ‘Buy the Zürich Card’
4) Choose between the 24 hours or the 72 hours Zürich Card. State the date and time you want the card to be activated.
5) Make your purchase
Afterwards, a QR code will be sent to your account. The card will be automatically activated on the date and time you stated in Step 4. Now you’re all set!
To use the Zürich Card in stores or at attractions, just show your card’s QR code at the entrance.
In rare circumstances, you might have to explain to the staff that the store is partnered with Zürich Card, which happened to us at Backerei Jung Central. Thankfully, they double-checked and we were good to go!
TLDR: for unlimited transportation in Zurich, discounts, and free entry to attractions, the Zürich Card is your best friend!
