These boutique hotels in Chiang Mai aren’t just a pretty front, they’re also friendly on the wallet!

While Chiang Mai has Shangri-la’s and U Hotels, I have to say, boutique hotels have an unbeatable charm that you won’t find in luxury hotel chains.
I especially love it when there’s a mix of modern and traditional architecture, extra warm personal service, and fun themed rooms! Plus, many of them are a lot more affordable as well.
In this list, we’ve compiled 15 of the best and most affordable boutique hotels in Chiang Mai — all under ~S$99/night — bookmark this for your next trip!
Deciding where to stay in Chiang Mai
You’ll save a lot of money on transportation if you book an accommodation at the right location in Chiang Mai.
Area | Description |
Old City/Old Town | city centre with Chiang Mai’s popular attractions, including temples and markets |
Nimman | more “modern” part of the city; for nightlife enthusiasts who love trendy cafes |
Riverside (Ping River) | a more relaxed, scenic area with — you guessed it — a riverside view |
Highway 11/Super Highway | connects Chiang Mai to Lamphun and Lampang; a great base if driving there |
The first two options are ideal for first-time travellers in Chiang Mai since they are conveniently located near famous landmarks. For those who want a more tranquil experience, you won’t go wrong with staying by the Ping River. And if you’re taking a day trip to Lampang, staying near Highway 11 may be a good choice.
At the end of this article, I’ve placed a Google Maps widget to visualise where these boutique hotels are in relation to the Chiang Mai International Airport!

3) Moose Hotel Chiangmai Super Highway — moose-themed, family-friendly rooms
Some may find Moose Hotel Chiangmai Super Highway‘s moose rooms random ’cause there aren’t really moose in Chiang Mai…but staying here was a pleasant surprise.
I mean… baby goats?
While it’s catered towards families — as the kiddie treats and stuffed toys would tell you — our team loved staying here because it’s right next to the highway, making it a great base for our day trips from Chiang Mai.
But perhaps my favourite part was the free snacks in the lobby, and having a hearty breakfast buffet by the swimming pool!
Note: There’s another branch called Moose Hotel Nimman which may be more convenient for those who want to be in the city centre! Don’t get the two mixed up.
