If you ever find me planning a weekend getaway at Johor Bahru, you’d know that I rarely spend over S$30 a night on my accommodation. It might sound extreme, but it gets the job done, and saves me money.

Yet sometimes I do crave a fancy hotel, where the bed and room are big and private enough for me to laze around shamelessly. It doesn’t hurt to be spoilt by good amenities either, like a rooftop pool, gym, and a bar.
The good news is that such hotels in JB aren’t as expensive as you might think. From ~S$62 per night, here are 7 fancy yet affordable hotels to pamper yourself over a weekend getaway!
*Pro-tip: Watch out for exclusive discounts and promo codes for JB hotels and activities on Klook! To get started, use our code <THETRAVELINTERNKLOOK> to get 5% off sitewide, up to 3x. T&Cs apply.
1) St. Giles Southkey (from ~S$93/night)

For the location, quality of rooms, and facilities, St. Giles Southkey is a great option for a fancy staycation.
First, the hotel is literally connected to Mid-Valley Southkey Shopping Mall, which makes shopping and dining super convenient.
Our room was classy, comfortable, and spacious enough such that we could put our luggage around without shrinking any walking space. We appreciated being able to drop off our luggage before check-in since we got there early!

The soft beds made for a great night’s sleep, while the work desk and nook by the window was a lovely touch. In some rooms, you can even catch the sunrise.
The rooftop — with a pool and bar — has a nice skyline view of the city, and the gym has well-maintained equipment and machines (so you have no reason to skip a workout).
Breakfast is on the 6th floor at Causeway Cafe. The seating area is huge, and food options include dim-sum and a DIY nasi lemak station!
Psst… the Causeway Cafe is also running two Klook-exclusive promotions for their weekend buffets from 18 Aug to 9 Sep 2025:
– Buy 2 Adults, Get 1 Child Free (at only ~$24 per pax)
– Buy 3 Adults, Get 1 Adult Free (at only ~$27 per pax)

How to get there: 20min drive from JB CIQ (Google Maps)
3) Amari Johor Bahru (from ~S$100/night)

Our room was so comfy we had to hit this pose.
Located within walking distance from JB Sentral, Amari Johor Bahru offered such a high-quality stay that we didn’t want to leave.
Our room was clean and welcoming, with plenty of space and comfortable beds.
What really stood out to us was the free pillow menu the room offered! There are incredibly specific options, like a Buckwheat Pillow (keeps the head and neck cool), a Cervicalopedic Pillow (supports the head and neck when sleeping), and a Non-Allergic Pillow (fights off dust)!

Get your workout done at the pool or gym, unwind at the spa services, or pop by the Dip Bar for food and drinks.
Plus, enjoy an expansive international breakfast buffet: it looked like a hawker-stall paradise when we walked by, and many reviews online have praised it!
For the cherry on top, Amari is literally across Komtar JBCC and JB City Square to do your shopping and visit Skyscape Johor Bahru.
There’s even a Hai Di Lao directly below the hotel, so you can wait in the comfort of your room while you queue for your hotpot dinner (actual advice a fellow guest gave us).

If I want a fancy place to escape the city, yet still stay somewhere convenient, I’d choose Sunway Hotel Big Box.
Rooms are modern-looking and clean, with a nice splash of colour on the headboards. All of them can fit a super king bed, so you can imagine just how much space there is.

Cool off in the large infinity pool, or lounge at the Pool Bar with a few drinks while looking into the sunset. If you’re driving, they even offer free on-site parking!

Despite being in a relatively secluded place, there are many things to do and see in the surrounding area. For example, X Park Sunway Iskandar is just a 7-minute walk away with thrilling activities like go-karting, high ropes, and ATV!
If you’re visiting Legoland Malaysia, the hotel offers shuttle services that you can arrange upon check-in.
In fact the entire area is a food enclave with establishments like Vine Cafe, KaCoDak – Korean Restaurant, and Monnalisa Italian Restaurant JB.

From the outside, Amerin Hotel Johor Bahru may look plain, but our experience staying here levelled up our JB getaway!
Our room was simple yet clean and cosy, with a city view from the window that allows plenty of light in. The beds were comfy and gave us a good night’s rest after a long day out.

There’s a rooftop pool beside a bar, so you could have some drinks while soaking in the water. A small gym is on the same floor as well, with a couple of treadmills and weight machines.
The hotel is only a 12-minute drive away from Skudai area, and a 14-minute drive from Legoland Malaysia.

7) Hako Mount Austin (from ~$137/night)

Nestled in the heart of Mount Austin’s buzzing lifestyle district, Hako Hotel is a cosy boutique stay, with rooms following a fuss-free white minimalist aesthetic.
We stayed in the Executive Family Room, which comfortably fits two king-sized beds, a work desk, and a bench long enough to park three full-sized suitcases.
It’s also impressively soundproof, especially when you realise that Loudspeaker KTV is directly below the hotel — we slept through the night without hearing even a peep of music!

While it doesn’t have amenities like a pool or a bar, Hako shines in its unbeatable location. There are plenty of food, cafes, salons, and boutique shops in the neighbourhood to keep you busy and pampered during your stay.

2) Getting around JB

My favourite way to get around JB is via Grab — it’s super convenient and affordable. If you plan on driving, make sure your vehicle has an active Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP). If not, you’ll risk getting fined RM300 (~S$96)! 😬
Alternatively, you can also rent a car with Klook to pick up when you’re in Johor. Else, you can always hire a car charter with private driver too.
