I love visiting JB! As a North Sider in Singapore, it makes perfect sense for me to head there every weekend—it’s much closer and everything feels so much more affordable with the favourable currency rate.
Recently, I discovered Mount Austin and it’s quickly become one of my favourite spots for shopping, dining, and fun activities. But it’s a bit far from the checkpoint, so staying overnight may be a better option.
Here are seven budget-friendly places to stay in Mount Austin, starting from ~S$34 per night. These options are arranged by price, so you can easily find one that fits your budget!
1) 8 Days Boutique Hotel (from ~S$34/night)

8 Days Boutique Hotel is situated in the heart of Mount Austin. Despite its affordable price (~S$34/night), the hotel is clean and well-kept, with guests mentioning that it offers a comfortable stay.
There are plenty of local street food stalls and eateries right across the street. Plus, if you’re driving to JB, they offer plenty of parking spaces right in front of the hotel, with roaming security to keep your car safe.
Best of all, they provide toiletries (including toothbrushes) unlike many budget hotels!

We highly recommend using Grab in Johor Bahru for a convenient and affordable way to get around.
A ride from JB Customs to Mount Austin only costs around RM40 (~S$12). You get to avoid long taxi queues and pay without cash. It’s perfect if you want to explore the city without the hassle of driving or dealing with public transport.
2) Private Car Charter Service
For another convenient option, consider a private car charter service that comes with a driver. You can book one on Klook from S$162, with flexible durations of 5 to 10 hours for groups of three to 12 people.
