With art studios, cafes, and creative spaces everywhere, you have to visit Pearl’s Hill Terrace before it closes in 2028!

I’m one of those Singaporeans who claims there’s nothing to do in Singapore — until I heard about Pearl’s Hill Terrace.
Photos online reminded me of Haji Lane, with its colourful murals and artsy vibe. It looked interesting, and I love supporting Singapore’s local arts scene, so I had to go check it out for myself!
Pearl’s Hill Terrace is set to close in 2028, but it’s still full of life and activity. The space is constantly evolving, with some stores moving out while new ones move in. Inside, you’ll find a vibrant community of makers, artists, and dining spots bringing energy to the space.
Here’s some things you can find within this arts enclave — but hurry, this may be your last chance to do so!
History of Pearl’s Hill Terrace

195 Pearl’s Hill Terrace, also known as the Upper Barracks, played a key role in Singapore’s post-war security efforts. It served as a police stronghold that coordinated operations during periods of unrest, including the 1956 Chinese Middle Schools riots.
After World War II, it housed major government and police units and was central to maintaining public order through the post-independence era. Vacated in 2001, it has since been transformed into an independent arts enclave while retaining its historical significance.
Now, it’s just a 5-minute walk away from Chinatown MRT Station (Exit C), conveniently located right behind People’s Park Food Centre.
*Pro-tip: Google maps may suggest that Outram Park MRT Station is the fastest way to get there, but we found it to be inaccurate as the walk is further (~10 minutes).
1) Poppy Lane & Co

Poppy Lane & Co is a local startup by a mother-daughter duo. Inside the little store with pink walls, you can find lovingly hand-sewn pieces with vibrant illustrations — from laptop and book sleeves, to pouches and keychains!

You can even choose your preferred fabric print and customise items to the exact size you need for a perfect fit. They also house a small retail corner where other local brands can showcase their products, like stickers from biibs the bee and natural oils from Hodokits.
Opening hours: 11AM – 7PM (Wed – Sun), closed on Mon – Tue
Address: Pearl’s Hill Ter, #01-32 195, Singapore 168976 (Google Maps)
2) Stranger Conversations

Behind this green door is a public living room, a community space where you can talk to strangers about… anything. At Stranger Conversations, conversations go beyond “what do you do for work” but digs deeper with “what’s your story” and “what are you passionate about”.

There, we met Isaac, a volunteer at Stranger Conversations. We talked to him about what we were doing (our internship with The Travel Intern), and he spoke to us about his projects and what he was passionate about.
On a regular day, it’s a space where you can relax and talk to people, but they also host events like journalling sessions, group therapy and music workshops! Entry into the space is free, but select events and workshops may require a fee. Do check out their Instagram for more updates on their activities!
*Pro-tip: They even have a donation-based, self-service snack and drink pantry, where you can make your own hot drinks, or grab a cold drink from the fridge.
Opening hours: 10AM – 6PM (Mon – Fri), 10AM – 3PM (Sat – Sun)
Address: 195 Pearl’s Hill Ter, #02-38D 195 Pearl’s Hill Terrace, Singapore 168976 (Google Maps)
3) Bunnies Patisserie

Bunnies Patisserie feels like a throwback to 2016 with shelves stacked full of squishies, from yummy food to cute animal designs!
I remember being back in school when the squishy craze was at its peak, and everyone was on the hunt for the most adorable ones. Most notably, they even produce some of their own designs that you can’t find anywhere else!

After spending a solid hour testing out every squishy possible, I can confidently say they’re indeed super slow-rising, incredibly satisfying, and all priced below S$10! As it was their first day of opening, the owner was kind enough to gift us goodie bags with a couple of their squishies to take home.
Opening hours: 12PM – 7PM (Fri), 11AM – 7PM (Sat), 11AM – 6PM (Sun)
Address: 195 Pearl’s Hill Ter, #03-50, Singapore 168976 (Google Maps)
4) Paaru

At Paaru, you’ll find simple Japanese home-style dishes made with fresh, quality ingredients. We loved the open kitchen concept as it created a lived-in and calming atmosphere.

They are popular for their French Toast Shokupan (from S$10), but we had their Udon Carbonara (S$26) set that was perfectly al dente.
Each main also comes paired with a coffee of your choice. On Friday and Saturday evenings, Paaru switches things up with a special menu featuring pasta & small plates, and seasonal donabe (clay pot).
*Pro-tip: We recommend making a reservation in advance as seating is limited.
Opening hours: 12PM – 6PM (Wed – Thu), 12PM – 6PM & 6:30PM – 10PM (Fri), 10AM – 6PM (Sat – Sun)
Address: 195 Pearl’s Hill Ter, #01-61, Singapore 168976 (Google Maps)
5) Arterly Obsessed

You’ll definitely be Arterly Obssessed with this neon-lit space bursting with colour and paintings all over the walls. Here, you’ll find a diverse selection of art supplies — it’s the kind of place that gets your creative juices flowing.

They offer a range of classes, from casual art jamming sessions to nude life figure drawing. There are also hands-on craft workshops like resin art and printmaking. Classes start from S$35 per pax for a 2-hour session. Bookings are required and can be done through their website.

6) EnToyPrize

EnToyPrize is a toy market for little enToypreneurs (entrepreneurs)! Kids can sell their toys, all for S$1 each, with every dollar earned going straight back to them.

You can find all sorts of toys, from little figurines, to soft toys and books. While most items sold are more for kids, I unexpectedly found a beautiful vase, which I purchased for some flowers at home. So who knows what other hidden gems you might dig out here?
Opening hours: 1PM – 6PM (Wed, Fri), 11AM – 6PM (Sat, Sun)
Address: 195 Pearl’s Hill Terrace, #02-38B, Singapore 168976 (Google Maps)
7) Dignus Amoris

Dignus Amoris is a bakery specialising in premium cakes. Try unique flavours like Thai milk tea with fig and salted milk cheese foam, or classics like chocolate with strawberry!

A slice of cake can cost S$16.80, and while it seems pricey, the ingredients used are no doubt of good quality. Also, do plan your visit well as they only open for pre-order pickups from 5PM – 6PM on selected days, and walk-in customers are only welcome on Saturdays!
Pre-order pickups: 5PM – 6PM (Mon, Thu, Fri, Sun)
Opening hours: 2:30PM – 6PM (Sat)
Address: 195 Pearl’s Hill Ter, #1-56 , Singapored168976 (Google Maps)
Why Should You Visit Pearl’s Hill Terrace?

Overall, I really enjoyed wandering through Pearl’s Hill Terrace. There’s an old-school charm to the corridors, but I love that it’s filled with modern studios, crafty shops and more. It’s also surprisingly uncrowded. I got to go at my own pace, and chat with shop owners and hear their stories.
Pearl’s Hill Terrace is set to close in 2028 to make way for redevelopment plans. So, if you enjoy discovering hidden gems and trying something new and creative, I’d definitely recommend dropping by sooner rather than later!
