How to get around and find cafes in HCMC

The easiest way to move between cafes is by Grab.

GrabBike rides are cheap and quick, usually 10–15 minutes between District 1 to 3 — the bustling parts of the city with many establishments. GrabCar is widely available too, though it can take longer, especially during rush hour.

Most cafes in HCMC are hidden inside small alleyways called “hẻm”, so don’t be surprised if you’re following Google Maps into a narrow lane or old apartment block. That’s where many of the coolest spots are!

The best time to visit these cafes are usually weekday late mornings and early afternoons. Weekends can get busy, especially at the more photogenic cafes. But many cafes open until late, so night cafe-hopping is totally a thing in HCMC — great for travellers avoiding the heat.
