If you’re wondering where to stay in Bali, consider the laidback but lively coastal village of Canggu. It boasts many world-class surf spots such as Echo Beach, as well as vibrant beach clubs (Vue — pictured above — and Finn’s) for those looking to smell some salt in the air and get sand in their hair!
Budget: Lushy Hostels
The ultimate Bali hostel experience can be found in the flamingo-themed Lushy Hostels. It’s one for the extroverts as guests are heavily encouraged to mingle (hello, happy hour!) and embark on adventures together.
Nights are guaranteed to never be boring here. Amenities such as their ping-pong table and foosball table were designed for maximum socialising and friend-making. But the highlight is probably their rooftop patio and bar which gives you an awesome sunset view!

Address: Jl. Munduk Tengah Br. Pengembungan No.11B, Pererenan, Kec. Mengwi, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80351, Indonesia
Mid-Range: Rimbun Canggu Hotel
Rimbun is an Indonesian term which means “lush” in English. And true to Rimbun Canggu Hotel’s name, they have a lush green garden for visitors to admire.
Their modern, minimalist rooms will also make you feel like you’re in the tropics with earthy tones and wooden furnishings.
Photo: Klook
If you’re looking to spice it up, you have the option of booking a villa with unique joglo (traditional Javanese) architecture. But perhaps my favourite part of Rimbun is that they have their own library — something I never thought I needed in a hotel.
Cost: From ~S$87/night (2 pax)
Address: Jl. Pantai Batu Bolong No.55, Canggu, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia
Luxury: Plataran Canggu Bali Resort & Spa
As someone who loves luxury and basking in quietness, Plataran Canggu is the villa I enjoyed staying at the most in South Bali. Nestled among the green paddy fields and away from the city centre, it was the perfect place to end an exhilarating trip.
The highlight of my stay at Plataran (aside from the massage session at their spa) was their superb hospitality. They left a personalised message on our bed, surprised us with a fruit basket, and always offered us a buggy ride to our room even if it was just a 1-minute walk from the lobby.
Every room was a combination of modern and traditional Indonesian designs — we booked a villa package through Klook which offers a 10% discount, as well as a spa treatment for free!
Cost: From ~S$150/night for a villa package (2 pax)
Address: Jalan Pengubugan Banjar, Jl. Silayukti, Kerobokan, Kec. Kuta Utara, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia
3) Kuta (South Bali) — for young adults
While Canggu’s nightlife and beach clubs are more laidback, Kuta is for the younger crowd looking for more excitement on their trip! Just ask those who have tried the thrilling slides at Waterbom Bali, or the many surfers in the area.
If the promise of a wild night out doesn’t draw you to Kuta, then maybe spending some time on the beach will — a movie-watching experience under the stars, perhaps? Streets are also lined with trendy clothes and handicrafts for shopaholics.
Budget: EDEN Hotel Kuta
EDEN Hotel Kuta is an affordable accommodation situated in an extremely convenient location as it gives you quick access to many attractions like the famous Kuta Beach, Waterbom Park, and Discovery Mall Bali.
All their rooms are painted in calming shades of green, perhaps to emulate the feeling of being in the Garden of Eden. The centrepiece of the hotel is their Sunken Bar where guests can enjoy signature cocktails in the swimming pool, or enjoy a floating breakfast.
Cost: From ~S$27/night (2 pax)
Address: Jl. Kartika Plaza No.42, Kuta, Kec. Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia
Mid-Range: SOL by Meliá Kuta Bali
If you’re looking for a mid-range place to stay in Kuta, SOL by Meliá Kuta Bali is an ideal choice. It’s close to the popular Kuta landmarks (Kuta Square and Segara Beach), supermarkets, and clubs, but still in a quiet place far from the main road.
Their rooms are oh-so-spacious with modern furnishings. They boast a gym and spa, on top of their two swimming pools! And if you’re looking to kill some time, make sure to enjoy happy hour in their hotel bar.
Cost: From ~S$48/night (2 pax)
Address: Jl. Bakung Sari No.81, Kuta, Central Kuta, Bali, 80361, Indonesia
Luxury: AYANA Resort
AYANA Resort & Spa is perfect for honeymooners or anyone celebrating a special occasion. Guests here have full access to the entire AYANA Estate (Villas, RIMBA, Segara) so you won’t run out of things to do and explore.
With an unparalleled view of the Indian Ocean, AYANA makes for a great spot to watch the sunset. Here lies the Rock Bar — hailed as Bali’s most popular sunset destination — which you get to via a cliffside inclinator.
If that somehow leaves you unsatisfied, then don’t worry: you have 13 more dining options to choose from, including the oceanfront KISIK Lounge & Seafood Restaurant.
Aside from the activities that they hold, they have many facilities such as a golf course, tennis court, and two kids clubs to keep everyone happy. And of course, we have to mention their diverse selection of swimming pools. Seriously, you’ll want to spend a whole day doing an AYANA swimming pool tour!
The hotel also offers a wide range of wellness experiences such as thalassotherapy, and getting a spa treatment on The Rocks. Booking a staycation package through Klook gives you access to many perks like three-course set menus, access to the Aquatonic Pool, and a 10% discount on spa treatments.
Cost: From ~S$511/night for the staycation package (2 pax)
Address: Jl. Karang Mas Sejahtera Jimbaran, South Kuta 80364, Indonesia

But just because you’re in the heart of luxury in Bali doesn’t mean you can’t save on accommodation! M Box Seminyak is an affordable hostel that offers capsule, dormitory, and private options.
Heads up: they are a party hostel so it definitely gets rowdy during nighttime with karaoke nights, beer pong tournaments, and other social activities. If you’re not up for meeting new friends in the swimming pool, you’re in luck because the sea is only a 5-minute walk from M Box.
Their restaurant is also known to be pretty good — make sure to try their chicken steak if you’re here!
Cost: From ~S$30/night (1 pax)
Address: Jl. Raya Seminyak No.19, Seminyak, Kec. Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia
Mid-Range: Seminyak Square Hotel and Villas
If a convenient location is your priority, then Seminyak Square Hotel and Villas may be what you’re looking for. As the name suggests, it’s right at the centre of the Seminyak Square Mall where many shopping and dining options await you.
While it’s not a beachfront property, the grey-sand Petitenget Beach is only a 5-minute walk away. They also offer “apartments” for guests — between the Deluxe Room and Villa options — with dining rooms and kitchens.
Cost: From ~S$67/night (2 pax)
Address: Jl. Kayu Aya No.100, Seminyak, Kec. Kuta, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia
Luxury: W Bali – Seminyak
Since you’re staying in the luxury capital of Bali, why not go all out? W Bali – Seminyak is an excellent resort for couples and families who are looking for a five-star tropical getaway.
Choose among rooms in the middle of a beautiful garden, and suites facing the ocean. Some of them even have sunroofs in the bathroom that you can control with a remote! If you book one of their private villas, you’ll also get to enjoy your own swimming pool and a grill for BBQ nights.
The amenities are irresistible — aside from their 24/7 spa, there are two restaurants and three bars which all have their own unique charm and incredible sunset views. Music aficionados can even use the resort’s private recording studio. It’s no wonder Snoop Dogg once stayed here!
Cost: From ~S$575/night (2 pax)
Address: Kerobokan, Jl. Petitenget, Seminyak, Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80361, Indonesia

5) Nusa Penida (Southeast Bali) — for beach-hopping
Nusa Penida has many beaches for you to explore. It’s the perfect place to go swimming, snap some Instagrammable photos, and take on a fun snorkelling adventure (watch out for the manta rays!).
It’s technically a different island off Bali, just a 40-minute boat ride away from the mainland. Some of the popular beaches on this island include Angel’s Billabong, Broken Beach, and Kelingking Beach — more details in our one-week Bali itinerary.
Budget: Sunset Hill Cottage
For only ~S$29/night, you’ll be able to enjoy Sunset Hill Cottage’s signature Premium Wooden Cottage which comes with its own terrace. I’d say for that price, it’s a sweet deal! The place — especially the swimming pool area — gives you a stunning view of (surprise, surprise!) the sunset.
While it’s quite a distance from everywhere else on the island, they have motorbike rentals and arranged tours.
Cost: From ~S$29/night (2 pax)
Address: Ped, Nusa Penida, Klungkung Regency, Bali 80771, Indonesia
Mid-Range: The Dewi Sun Sun Suite
If you’ve been actively searching for where to stay in Bali, then you know that some of the more luxurious accommodations usually give you an oceanfront view. At The Dewi Sun Sun Suite, you’ll get to enjoy that for half the price!
With how close the rooms are to the sea, you’ll have a natural lullaby as the humming waves put you to sleep. All rooms come with either a terrace or a balcony, perfect for watching the sunrise and sunset (hence, Sun Sun).
For the cherry on top, it’s right beside a dive and snorkelling spot!
Cost: From ~S$63/night (2 pax)
Address: 8GG4+M4P, Jalan Ped Buyuk, Tanah Bias, Nusa Penida, Klungkung Regency, Bali 80117, Indonesia
Luxury: The Mesare Resort
Those looking to get away from all the noise and bustle of the world would enjoy staying at this Bali accommodation. The rustic-themed Mesare Resort was designed with wellness in mind, and it shows from how their cottages are plotted — far from each other.
No matter which one you end up booking, you’ll definitely be bathing in tranquillity with how quiet the entire place is. One of the first things the receptionist told me was how the resort was a “jungle”… and it was something I remembered as I heard the chirping of geckos at night, and immersed myself in the sea of greenery.
You could spend hours at their open-air restaurant, which overlooks a swimming pool and garden. Or simply stay in your room to admire a view of the lush foliage.
And since the resort is tucked away from Nusa Penida’s beaches, you can book a private car via the front desk to get around.
Cost: From ~S$130/night (2 pax)
Address: Dusun, Jalan Batu Guling, Batukandik, Nusa Penida, Kabupaten Klungkung, Bali 80771, Indonesia
6) Nusa Lembongan (Southeast Bali) — for beach-hopping with the family
Photo credit: Agung Satwika via Unsplash
If you’re bringing along kids to a beach-hopping adventure, then Nusa Penida’s more-developed cousin, Nusa Lembongan, is where to stay in Bali. The island has pristine beaches like Mushroom Bay Beach and overlooks Devil’s Tears.
One must-do here is snorkelling at Mangrove Point, a picturesque mangrove forest sprawling with coral reefs.
Budget: Starfish Lembongan
Nestled on the island’s hills is Starfish Lembongan, a family-run accommodation featuring only four cottages for maximum peace and quiet. Surrounding it are seaweed farms, and the other two Nusa islands in Bali: Nusa Ceningan, and Nusa Penida.
Every cottage is air-conditioned, built in the style of a wooden hut, and comes with an open-style bathroom. Some of Nusa Lembongan’s famous landmarks such as Yellow Bridge, Devil’s Tears, and Mushroom Bay Beach, are only over a kilometre away!
Cost: From ~S$13/night (2 pax)
Address: 8C4R+MWW, Jalan Ancak Sari, Jungutbatu, Nusa Penida, Klungkung Regency, Bali 80771, Indonesia

Aside from its comfy rooms, the hotel is well-liked for its restaurant. With a full menu of vegan options, specialty fruit bowls, and flavourful drinks, it’s a must-visit in Nusa Lembongan.
Cost: From ~S$108/night (2 pax)
Address: 8GG4+M4P, Jalan Ped Buyuk, Tanah Bias, Nusa Penida, Klungkung Regency, Bali 80117, Indonesia
Luxury: Hai Tide Beach Resort
At the heart of Mushroom Bay is the award-winning Hai Tide Beach Resort. Aside from private villa-style accommodation, they also offer beachfront Balinese-style lumbangs (rice barns).

But perhaps the best reason to stay here is for scuba-diving! It’s a PADI five-star centre so expect world-class training from their diving instructors. Through Hai Tide, you’ll have the chance to explore the many abundant dive sites on and around the island.
If snorkelling or diving isn’t your thing, you might enjoy other water activities such as sea walking — where you can walk along the seafloor with a helmet on — or coral reef restoration.
*Pro-tip: Book a staycation package through Klook to experience riding an Aristocat cruise from Bali mainland, snorkelling, and unlimited banana boat rides! You’ll get it all for 10% off.
Cost: From ~S$476/night for the staycation package (2 pax)
Address: Mushroom Bay, Jungutbatu, Nusa Lembongan, Kabupaten Klungkung, Bali 80771, Indonesia
7) Uluwatu (Southwestern Bali) — for beautiful clifftop views
Uluwatu is home to the famous Hindu temple perched on the edge of a beautiful limestone cliff. If you choose the right accommodation, you’ll get to enjoy clifftop views overlooking the coastline, too. When you’re here, make sure you take a hike down to one of their many pristine white-sand beaches.
Budget: Naturela Hotel
The most popular accommodation in Uluwatu are on the pricier side, but Naturela Hotel is a cosy but simple option for those on a budget. Guests love it because of its fantastic location as it is near many beaches (only a 2-min bicycle ride from Padang Padang Beach) and well-loved restaurants like Warung Local.
But you don’t even have to step outside if you’re looking for good food; their in-house cafe is sure to delight!

But one of the best reasons to stay here is their delicious breakfast that they deliver straight to your doorstep. Then when you’re all filled up, you can spend the day in your well-furnished bungalow, or take a dip in their stone fountain-adorned swimming pool.
Cost: From ~S$75/night (2 pax)
Address: Jl. Bukal Sari, Pecatu, Kec. Kuta Sel., Kabupaten Badung, Bali 80364, Indonesia
Luxury: Hidden Hills Villas

If you’re looking for where to stay in Bali, chances are, you’ll come across stunning photos of luxury villas in Uluwatu! Enter Hidden Hills Villas: an award-winning resort situated perfectly to give you an unobstructed view of the sunset.
Unlike other luxury hotels that “only” offer private pools, they have villas with private jacuzzis, and infinity pools. But what makes Hidden Hills stand out is their impeccable “private butler” service. Through WhatsApp, you can directly talk to someone who’s assigned to assist you whenever you need it, even before you’ve checked in!

Perhaps the most high-end and exclusive part of Bali, Nusa Dua has many (and I mean many) prestigious five-star resorts in the area. While it may not provide the most “authentic” of Balinese experiences, it’s perfect for those who just want to relax in luxury. That means spending your days in secluded beaches, golf courses, and doing water activities.

Budget: Sunrise Aventus Hotel

Their rooms blend both rural and contemporary Balinese design, so it’s perfect for those wanting a basic but comfy set-up. While it’s quite far from the city centre, their restaurant serves Western, Indonesian, and Balinese cuisine so you don’t have to search far and wide for somewhere good to eat!

9) Sanur (Southeast Bali) — For a tranquil beach experience
Photo credit: Wayan Parmana via Pexels
Not all beaches were made the same. Those deciding where to stay in Bali but aren’t fans of surfing can consider the beach resort town of Sanur. It has a coral reef that protects its calm and shallow waters, attracting families and an older crowd.
Sanur is the less touristy alternative to other parts of Bali, such as Canggu and Ubud, but similarly boasts beautiful sunset views and scenic beach walks.
Budget: Sanur Guest House
Sanur Guest House is one of the most affordable accommodations in the area, which is primarily dominated by mid-range and luxury options. It’s a quiet place (much like Sanur itself) and conveniently located so you can spend your day exploring the outdoors.
It’s only a 10-minute walk away from the beach and near popular dining spots like Massimo and Daily Baguette. Divers may also appreciate this accommodation because it’s near renowned diving centres like Diving-Indo.

10) Lovina (North Bali) — for hidden gems
Lovina is an area in North Bali known for dolphin-watching and black sand beaches. But it also has activities you may not know about, like canyoning in Gitgit Waterfall, trekking the Hidden Canyon, or exploring the rich marine life on Menjangan Island.
The more curious adventurers looking for where to stay in Bali will appreciate what Lovina has to offer. If you’re exploring North Bali, it’s the most ideal place to book a hotel or villa since there’s a wider selection here compared to surrounding areas.
Budget: Hotel Shri Ganesh

Candidasa and Eastern Bali are far away from the places most first-time travellers usually visit. However, it still has beautiful natural attractions that Bali is known for, such as rice terraces, beaches, and mountains.
This part of the island also has water palaces like the Tirta Gangga, and an underwater garden with sunken sculptures to explore. So if you’re wondering where to stay in Bali as a first-timer, don’t count this out!

Choosing Where to Stay in Bali
Finding the perfect accommodation for your Bali trip can be a daunting task with so many options available. But I recommend really taking the time to do your research because it can make or break your trip.
Where you stay also depends on what you plan to do in Bali. For example, my Bali trip was with two adventure junkies and a wellness enthusiast like myself. So we made sure to include Lovina in our Bali itinerary to explore hidden gems, and a day trip to Ubud to do the more spiritual activities. In the end, everyone was happy!
Another thing we considered when looking for where to stay in Bali is the activities that the accommodation offers. So we’d always have something to look forward to after a tiring day. Whether it’s a cooking class or a yoga sesh, you’d have to experience these activities at least once as a first-timer.
Not all of them are complimentary though, so we hit up Klook for value-for-money “resort packages”. On top of an overnight or weekend stay in a resort of your choosing, they’d usually throw in a free or discounted activity as well.
In our case, we booked Plataran Canggu’s staycation package which included a free spa treatment. It was the best decision we could’ve made to finish off our trip since we all went home in a state of relaxation — which in my opinion, should be the lingering feeling a trip to Bali should give you!
*Pro-tip: Some properties also come with the option of a Klook Stay+ bundle, where you can choose between a free/discounted activity, airport transfer, or travel essential item (e.g. WiFi, SIM Card) to go along with your accommodation!
